

PICKLEBALL RULES
Pickleball is a fun and worthwhile sport to learn! However, before we just jump in the court its important to understand and learn the basics.

1. Court and Equipment

Court Dimensions: 20 feet wide and 44 feet long, similar to a badminton court.

Net Height: 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the center.

Paddle: A solid paddle made of wood or composite materials.

Ball: A perforated plastic ball similar to a whiffle ball.

2. Scoring
-
Points: Only the serving side can score points.
-
Game: Played to 11 points, must win by 2 points.
-
Matches: Typically best 2 out of 3 games.

3. Serve Rules
-
Starting Serve: The server must be behind the baseline, and the serve must be underhand.

Diagonal Serve: The serve must land in the diagonal service court.

Service Sequence: At the start of each game, the first serving team is allowed only one fault before service passes to the opposing team. After that, both team members serve before passing service to the other team.

4. Double Bounce Rule

Each team must let the ball bounce once on their side before volleying (hitting it out of the air).
-
After the ball has bounced once on each side, it can be volleyed or played off a bounce.

5. Non-Volley Zone (The Kitchen)
-
The area within 7 feet from the net on both sides is called the non-volley zone.
-
Players cannot volley the ball while standing in this zone.
-
It is permissible to enter the non-volley zone to play a ball that has bounced but must exit before volleying.
6. Faults
-
Hitting the Ball Out of Bounds: The ball must stay within the court lines.

Not Clearing the Net: The ball must go over the net.
-
Volleying in the Non-Volley Zone: No volleys are allowed in the kitchen.

Double Hit: Hitting the ball twice or allowing it to bounce twice.

7. Player Positions
-
Doubles: Players switch sides only when a point is scored by the serving team.
-
Singles: The server's position (left or right) depends on their score (even or odd).

8. Let Serves
-
A serve that touches the net but lands in the correct service court is called a "let" and is replayed.

9. Line Calls
-
A ball contacting any part of the line is considered "in."
-
The non-volley zone line is considered out for a serve.
​
10. Code of Conduct
-
Players are expected to play with honesty and sportsmanship, making fair line calls and respecting opponents.
